Fiesta Cultural en Camagüey

Traditional Culture Fiesta Returns to Camaguey

Thursday, 10 November 2011 16:53
Camaguey, Cuba, Nov 10.- The third edition of Fiesta del Tinajón, is underway in the central province of Camagüey until Sunday November 13. The event has become popular among the locals for being an event that promotes the interaction between inhabitants and visitors and the best of the local artistic talents in all manifestations of the arts. This becomes evident in the crowded Avenida de la Libertad and its adjacent streets where families go out ready to enjoy all the activities set to promote the rich history, culture and traditions of this almost 500 year old city.Professional and amateurs artists, students of art schools and workers of the main cultural institutions of the city work hard to deliver the citizens offerings according to their preferences.Simultaneously, a theoretical event is unravelling in the city. The event focuses on three main topics: Architecture and the city; literature made in Camagüey with special emphasis on Camagüey-born authors Emilio Ballagas and Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, and Afro-descendants in Camagüey.The most anticipated moment of the Fiesta is the concert by Latin Grammy nominee Adalberto Álvarez — honorary president of the event— and folk dance group Rumbatá next Saturday in the Plaza de la Caridad. On Sunday 13, Frank Fernández will give a piano concert at the Teatro Principal of the city accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of Camagüey, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. (Granma).
